I hope all of our members are enjoying a great summer and getting ready for another season of Buckeye football when September rolls around. Your board has continued its work with the university and student athletes. We attended the graduation brunch where a record number of former players, in all sports, achieved that most important goal of any student at Ohio State, namely a diploma!

Those graduates received a directory, VO hat, and most importantly, an application for membership to Varsity “O”. If you get the chance to meet any of them, please take the time to welcome them into our special fraternity. We continue to work toward our goal of increased membership and the power that those members provide. If you have former teammates who are not part of our group, please encourage them to join us.

Our plans for our 70th anniversary celebration are moving along. We intend to use the entire year to look back to our roots and recognize some of our pioneers. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. Each board has continued to build on the accomplishments of their predecessors. It is exciting to think about where we are and where we are going. We plan to offer some apparel that marks this special milestone and give our members the opportunity to show their pride in Varsity “O”.

As I think about this last letter to the membership of the finest letterwinners group in the country, I am amazed how quickly two years can pass by. It has been a great experience to represent you at meetings and conferences in my duties as VO president. Many years after my participation as an athlete at Ohio State, it has been great to be part of a team and work with others toward goals that benefit fellow Buckeyes. Many thanks to those of you who have taken the time to share your thoughts, suggestions, and constructive criticism. That input shows how much VO members care about Ohio State and their experience as athletes representing a great university. The past presidents, especially Jeff Logan, Rick Smith and the late Larry Zelina have been invaluable with their counsel and willingness to help make VO a great partner of Ohio State and the athletic department while seeking to provide benefit to the membership. In closing, thanks again for your support of our mission of ATHLETES HELPING ATHLETES.
