Varsity "O" News: Letter from the President
Fellow Varsity O Members and Buckeyes,
As I write what is the first of the "Letters From The President" I am struck with what an honor and privilege it is to serve as president of this organization. I am also reminded of those that have come before me and the work they have done to lead Varsity O to where we are today. With your help I trust we can continue the growth of the organization and ensure that "Athletes Helping Athletes" is not just a slogan but a meaningful commitment.
The board is actively looking for ways to bring VO to you, the members. This year we plan to hold the first of what we hope are many social events in various parts of the country. By joining our efforts with those of OSU Alumni Club around the country we want to provide our members the opportunity to get together with fellow athletes and alumni in locales outside of Central Ohio. If you are interested in assisting with these efforts in your hometown please contact me or a fellow board member.
We also plan to continue the activities that have been so well received by present and former Buckeyes. VO will continue to fund endowed scholarships helping to "Pay Forward" for future Buckeyes. Your dues and contributions assist with those efforts. We will continue the letter jacket award ceremony for current first time letter winners and improve the VO Network helping current and past athletes find meaningful employment. In March we will begin the selection process which culminates in the Hall of Fame induction ceremony in September. If you wish to nominate a former Buckeye for the HOF please contact one of the board members.
My high school coach selected motivational words each year as we prepared for a new season.. During my three years as a varsity player he selected "Sacrifice", "Dedication" and "Total Commitment." I often think of those words as I look at life’s tasks and challenges. I believe VO can also take inspiration from them.
I urge all of you to "Sacrifice" a bit of yourselves for the growth of VO. Reach out to a teammate or fellow Buckeye that is not a member and encourage him to join and get involved. Show your "Dedication" to the organization and attend events, volunteer your time and expertise, or help when called to assist with the VO Network and current athletes. Finally, through each of our "Total Commitment" we can make the Ohio State University Men’s Varsity O Alumni Association the ‘best damn letter winners association in the land."
